Background Analysis

Each city and school district must pass a resolution naming all of their polling places for the following year. With the Presidential Nominating Primary on March 3, 2020, the deadline to designate polls is earlier for 2019--December 4 instead of December 31. Any changes to precinct boundaries are required to be approved by December 1 by statute (MN Statute 204B.14, Subd. 4)

Precinct additions are being proposed now after having recently confirmed space to accommodate each new precinct within their existing polling location, and after discussing each addition with the affected Ward Office. The additions will help mitigate projected high turnout in 2020, after witnessing long lines and delays for voters at each location in the 2018 General election.
