Background Analysis

The 2018 Gubernatorial General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 6. In-person absentee balloting for the general election begins 46 days prior to Election Day, which was Friday, September 21. Based on the record-setting turnout Minneapolis had during the 2018 Primary in August and the strong rate of early voting for the General Election so far, the Elections & Voter Services Division expects there to be a significant turnout on and before November 6.

To serve all voters and to minimize the potential for negative impacts caused by long lines, wait times, and potential claims of disenfranchisement, the Elections & Voter Services Division is pursuing a multi-tiered outreach, education, and early engagement approach that will use community-based partnerships, voter resources, and early voting opportunities to maximize access to the ballot box for all qualified voters.
