Southside Green Zone Council

The Southside Green Zone serves as an advisory board to the City Council and Mayor on the implementation and evaluation of the Southside Green Zone Work Plan. The Southside Green Zone Council members will be responsible for attending meetings, holding the City of Minneapolis and related partners accountable to the timely and effective implementation of the work plan, informing and engaging community members on the status of the work, developing a fundraising plan and overseeing its success by guiding Green Zone staff and advocating for resources, and providing policy, program and resource recommendations to the Mayor and City Council.

Membership Description:

Twelve resident community members who live in the Southside Green Zone and:

  1. Explicitly support the successful implementation of the Southside Green Zone
  2. Have been impacted by cumulative pollution, or demonstrate expertise in environmental justice, climate resiliency, or cumulative health impacts
  3. Equitably reflect the cultural, linguistic, racial, and demographic makeup of the community that lives in the Southside Green Zone

 Four Youth Ambassadors who live in the Southside Green Zone and:

  1. Are interested in being mentored by a Southside Green Zone Council member
  2. Can be a leader in engaging other youth to learn about and support Green Zones
  3. Equitably reflect the cultural, linguistic, racial, and demographic makeup of the community that lives in the Southside Green Zone 

Four representatives from pertinent City departments and/or Minneapolis residents with interest and impact in the Southside Green zone.

Residency Requirement:
Yes, the 12 voting members shall also be residents living within the geographic boundaries of the Southside Green Zone.
Compensation:
lf resources are available, compensation may be provided.
Selection Procedure:

Task Force members are selected by a selection committee of City staff, City Council offices, and representatives who live in the Southside Green Zone.
