Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission

The Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission advises the Mayor, City Council, and the Neighborhood and Community Relations department on improvements to the City's community engagement process, ways to increase diversity on City boards and commissions, and provides input regarding neighborhood and community organization funding programs.

Membership Description:

The Commission has 16 members:

  • 7 members appointed using the City's open appointments process and a public hearing; 5 appointed by the City Council and 2 appointed by the Mayor.
  • 8 members selected through a process defined by the officially recognized neighborhood organizations.
  • 1 member appointed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.

Members can serve up to 3 two-year terms.
Residency Requirement:
Yes, members shall be residents of the City of Minneapolis who do not hold a current election certificate.
Compensation:
None (reimbursement for parking during meetings, childcare may be provided).
Selection Procedure:

Eight of the 16 NCEC commissioners are appointed through the open appointments process and eight members are elected by Minneapolis neighborhood organizations.

Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission Executive Subcommittee The Executive Subcommittee works with NCR Staff and Commissioners to set the NCEC Monthly Agenda. Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission Neighborhoods 2020 Subcommittee The Neighborhoods 2020 Subcommittee partners with NCR Staff, neighborhood organizations, City Council offices as appropriate, and other key stakeholders to conduct engagement, to develop and compile recommendations to the NCEC on actions to envision the next phase of Minneapolis’ neighborhood programming that reflects changes in the city’s population diversity and demographics, as well as changing opportunities and challenges in the 21st Century. Neighborhood and Community Engagement Commission One Minneapolis Fund Committee The One Minneapolis Fund Committee recommends to the NCEC and NCR department on guidelines for the One Minneapolis Fund, develops a request for proposals for funding applications and reviews applications and makes recommendations on projects to receive funding from the program.
