The Minneapolis Commission on Civil Rights (MCCR) implements the City's Civil Rights policies through public information and education as stated in the Minneapolis Code of Ordinances. The primary objective of the Commission is to promote and protect the civil rights of the people of Minneapolis.

Membership Description:
The Commission consists of 21 members known to favor the principles of equity, nondiscrimination and the objectives of the Commission. A minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 must be lawyers.

Residency Requirement:
Must be a Minneapolis resident.
Compensation:
$35 per monthly meeting and $50 per hour after 4 hours in a hearing
Selection Procedure:
Applications are reviewed by the Mayor and Public Health, Environment, Civil Rights, & Engagement Committee for consideration and then recommended to the full City Council. Mayor appoints 14 and Council appoints 7 members.

CER manages the Commission’s social media accounts, updates education and publicity materials and conducts research on contemporary civil rights issues facing the City of Minneapolis. Civil Rights Commission Workforce & Contract Compliance Subcommittee | The Workforce & Contract Compliance committee engages the public, conducts research and issues policy recommendations on civil rights issues related to employment, contracts and grant-making processes with the City of Minneapolis. WCC also works with the Contract Compliance division of the Department of Civil Rights on policy and review panels.
