Planning Commission

The Planning Commission hears and decides applications for land use reviews, including site plan review, conditional use permits, changes or expansions of a nonconforming use, variances, and land subdivisions. In addition, the Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on planning decisions, including proposed rezonings, street and alley vacations, public land sales, zoning code text amendments, and amendments to the comprehensive plan.

Membership Description:

The Commission is comprised of the Mayor or the Mayor's representative, one City Council Member, four Mayoral appointees, one City Council appointee, one representative each from the Minneapolis School Board, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners, and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.
 

Appointed members must be legal voters of the City and must not be members of the City Council, the Park Board, the School Board, or the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.

Must be a Minneapolis resident.
Attendance Taken:
Six unexcused absences from regular meetings during a calendar year may result in a termination of membership.
Compensation:
The members or the representative of a member of the city planning commission, except those who are paid by the city or any other public body or agency for attending or serving on the commission, shall be paid at the rate of fifty dollars for each official meeting attended with a limitation of one meeting per day and four meetings per month.
Selection Procedure:

All applications will be forwarded to the Mayor for mayoral appointees with subsequent consideration by the City Council. The other bodies will select their designee and forward a letter of appointment to the City Clerk.
