African American Heritage Work Group

The African American Heritage Work Group supports the Minneapolis African American Historic and Cultural Context Study. The Community Planning and Economic Department has been awarded a grant from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund (known more commonly as a Legacy Grant) to hire a consultant to write the context study. A context study is a document that describes people, places, and events related to a common theme. This context study will help guide historic preservation planning in Minneapolis related to the city’s African American history. The consultant team will survey 25 properties in the City that may be historically significant to the African American community, as well as take photographs and research the history of a place.
