Public Hearing

  1. 511 4th Ave SE, Ward 3

    The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development recommends that the Heritage Preservation Commission adopt staff findings for the application by J. Theodore A. Tucker for the property located at 511 4th Ave SE in the Fifth St SE Historic District:

    A. Certificate of Appropriateness.

    Recommended motion: The Heritage Preservation Commission approves the certificate of appropriateness to demolish the existing detached garage and construct a new garage at 511 4th Ave SE in the Fifth Street SE Historic District., subject to the following conditions:

    1. New siding shall be smooth and shall not utilize false wood grain or texture.
    2. By ordinance, approvals are valid for a period of two years from the date of the decision unless required permits are obtained and the action approved is substantially begun and proceeds in a continuous basis toward completion.  Upon written request and for good cause, the planning director may grant up to a one-year extension if the request is made in writing no later than June 21, 2024.
    3. By ordinance, all approvals granted in this certificate of appropriateness shall remain in effect as long as all of the conditions and guarantees of such approvals are observed.  Failure to comply with such conditions and guarantees shall constitute a violation of this certificate of appropriateness and may result in termination of the approval.

    700 3rd St S, Ward 3

    The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development recommends that the Heritage Preservation Commission adopt staff findings for the applications by Elizabeth Gales of Hess, Roise and Company for the property located at 700 3rd St S:

    A. Certificate of Appropriateness.

    Recommended motion: The Heritage Preservation Commission denies the certificate of appropriateness to install a projecting sign from the south elevation of the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton Company Building, located at 700 3rd St S.

    B. Historic Variance.

    Recommended motion: The Heritage Preservation Commission denies the historic variance install a projecting sign from the south elevation of the Advance Thresher/Emerson-Newton Company Building, located at 700 3rd St S.

    603 5th St SE, Ward 3

    The Department of Community Planning and Economic Development recommends that the Heritage Preservation Commission adopt staff findings for the certificate of appropriateness application by Acacia Architects, LLC for the property located at 603 5th St SE in the Fifth Street Southeast Historic District:

    A. Certificate of Appropriateness.

    Recommended motion: The Heritage Preservation Commission approves the certificate of appropriateness to construct a new residence, subject to the following conditions:

    1.
